Gospel Reflection for the Ascension

Today, we are celebrating The Ascension of the Lord into Heaven.

Jesus after his resurrection spent forty days with his disciples instructing them and encouraging them as they prepared for the mission. The message Jesus gave them was very clear go into the whole world and proclaim the Good News. He who believes and is baptized will be saved. The Ascension of Jesus prepares us for Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the birth of the Church, the body of Christ.

The word was made flesh and lived among us; the word has now left us and still lives among us.

World Communications Day

Silence and Word

Sunday 20th May

On this year's World Communication Day Pope Benedict stresses the importance of silence in our communication.

We are living in an age where we are constantly bombarded with information, where it is increasingly easy to find answers to our questions, answers that we aren’t even looking for. It is easy to lose track of who we are and what we are seeking.

"Word and silence: learning to communicate is learning to listen and contemplate as well as speak."

Is Joy possible?

It is not only possible but it is an essential ingredient of our Religion; and it is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. If God is present we should rejoice and be happy. Even in the face of death – God’s loving presence is a reason for courage, hope and even joy – if our faith in God is strong enough.

Our Easter Garden – in each church are not only beautiful and artistic – thanks to those who put them up – they proclaim joy – because Jesus has conquered death; He is risen.

Through the Church Jesus enables us to share in his journey to the Father. The Church is a divine institution founded by Christ to save sinners and lead us from sin to life with God, here and hereafter.

The mission of Jesus and ours is here on earth, in our own place and among our nearest and dearest. However we must reach out to the whole world – to all God’s family by prayer and good works.
